Saint Louis University Aviation Maintenance/Manufacturing Survey

As with any industry, it is important for aviation maintenance stakeholders to evaluate future knowledge, skills and abilities to support the future needs of the flying public. The Center for Aviation Safety Research (CASR) at Saint Louis University is surveying aviation maintenance professionals as part of a research study titled “Next Generation Aviation Maintenance/Manufacturing Competencies” to gather important information of this kind.

The survey will be open until January 9. Approximately six weeks after the survey is closed, results will be posted online at the Center for Aviation Safety Research website. The information gathered for this study may be published in scientific research journals or presented at professional conferences.

Survey results will remain anonymous and researchers will delete identifying information.

Questions about the study can be directed to Damon Lercel at dlercel@slu.edu or 314-977-8527. Questions about research participant rights can be directed to Saint Louis University’s Institutional Review Board at 314-977-7744.

Global Helicopter Mechanic Career Survey

April 07, 2014

The aviation maintenance industry needs to find and grow technically skilled and trained talent. With global air traffic expected to expand at a healthy rate over the next twenty years, the demand for certificated repair stations–and the mechanics and technicians who staff them–will continue to rise. Looming retirements in the current workforce combined with the intense regulatory requirements surrounding training and apprenticeship have made the issue front-and-center for MRO providers across the world.

Turbomeca France and Helicopter Maintenance magazine have put together a survey to address the issue among rotor mechanics. The goal is for A&Ps/AMEs already working in the helicopter industry and those contemplating becoming A&Ps/AMEs to share their thoughts about their careers. What can be done to attract and keep more young people in the industry as many of the older generation retire? Through the efforts of Turbomeca, in association with Helicopter Association International (HAI), the European Helicopter Association(EHA), and Helicopter Maintenance magazine, the survey is alive and looking for your opinion. The survey is anonymous; you do not have to give your name or the name of the company where you work.
