Deal Reached for “Clean” FAA Extension
September 13, 2011
On Sept. 9, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) and House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH-8), reached an agreement to extend funding and operating authority for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
The proposal is a “clean” extension of the agency’s programs at current funding levels through Jan. 31, 2012, and contains no policy changes. With the 21st extension of VISION 100, the nation’s most recent aviation law, expiring on Sept. 16, urgent action is necessary to prevent another shutdown of the FAA.
Both the House and the Senate have approved new, multiyear FAA reauthorization bills, but negotiations between the two chambers to iron out differences between the two proposals has stalled.
