IATA, ICAO Seek ARSA Member Input on Training & Diversity

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has requested ARSA member feedback to a new survey launched by the International Civil Aviation Organization’s Personnel Training and Licensing Panel (PTLP).

The panel was created in January 2020 and has working groups focused on aircraft automation (for pilot training), competency based training and assessment, flight simulation training devices, and diversity, equity, inclusion issues. More than 100 members and observers participate in the panel’s work, mostly from ICAO member state governments and some international trade associations, but ARSA is alone in ensuring the maintenance industry’s perspective is considered.

The survey collects industry data in areas consistent with the working groups. For maintenance organizations, the focus is on competency based training, simulation training devices, and diversity matters. The questionnaire includes 22 questions; the completion time and complexity of information needed to respond will vary by respondent and coordination may be required within the responding organization. Respondents will be given access to results based on the contact/demographic information shared.

The deadline for submission is Jan. 31, 2023.

To access the survey, visit https://forms.office.com/r/wkE2Qaenf0.

Questions regarding the survey should be sent to Dragos Budeanu, IATA senior manager of engineering and maintenance. Click here to email Mr. Budeanu.

10/26/18 - International Maintenance Workforce Survey

October 26, 2018

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) is surveying the international maintenance industry on the challenge of attracting, selecting and retaining technicians. IATA has asked ARSA to assist in publicizing the survey in order to ensure broadest-possible industry participation.

This survey was developed by IATA to create a benchmark on the global aviation maintenance skills shortage. It collects insight on different recruitment and retention strategies among and between maintainers and operators. Responses will be put into the larger context of worldwide fleet and market expansion and will add to the growing narrative surrounding the next generation of aviation professionals; the data will assist industry stakeholders in developing a coherent human capital strategy.

Help ARSA and IATA gather this important information by either completing the survey or ensuring the appropriate person in your organization gets access to it. Be sure to include IATA Head of Engineering & Maintenance Thomas Fodor (email) in any correspondence regarding the survey (and contact Fodor with any questions). Your input will be kept confidential and the information will only be used for a summary report, a copy of which will be provided to all participants.

To get started, visit www.surveymonkey.com/r/technicianskillsshortage.

The survey’s original deadline has been extended. Submissions are now due by Wednesday, Nov. 14.

11/17/14 - Global Business Resources: IATA Mobilization Initiative

November 17, 2014

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) launched the Mobilization Initiative to maximize the use of Simplified Interline Settlement (SIS) e-invoicing and its benefits to airlines’ direct operating cost suppliers including MROs (parts and services), airports, catering companies, ground handling and air navigation system providers.

The initiative is a means to standardize and simplify financial processes across the wide community of airline industry partners. The benefits of SIS e-invoicing include: electronic data interchange (EDI) at a worldwide scale with any participating airline, multi-party information sharing via a single connection, compliant e-invoicing in 42 countries, traceability, basic data validation and dispute process.

Currently, there are more than 200 suppliers (Messier-Bugatti, GE, Lufthansa Technik, etc.), 500 business jets, charters and low cost carriers as well as nearly 600 legacy airlines on the platform. The community is growing rapidly – it can be a repair station’s window into an interconnected, lucrative world.
