4/15/18 - ARSA at MRO Americas - Seeing the Sights
April 15, 2018
On April 10-11, Vice President of Communications Brett Levanto returned to Orlando for MRO Americas. During the event, held at the Orange County Convention Center, Levanto facilitated an invitation-only session on AMT workforce development efforts related to military-to-civilian transitions (and the need to ensure a viable supply of technical talent across aerospace and defense). He also walked the convention floor to visit ARSA members and allies, observed the Aerospace Maintenance Competition and listened in on regulatory and business updates provided through panel discussions and plenary session presentations.
Levanto’s attendance was made possible through support by AAR Corp., an ARSA corporate member and industry leading organization that has committed to helping the association improve the regulatory environment, generate workforce opportunity and increase aviation business efficiency.

4/25/17 - ARSA at MRO Americas - Always Among Friends
April 25, 2017
On April 24, Vice President of Communications Brett Levanto stopped in Orlando for a discussion with Aviation Week’s Commercial Aviation Forecast Advisory Board. At the meeting, held at the Orange County Convention Center during the run-up to MRO Americas, Levanto briefed board members on the legislative, regulatory and operational issues that must be faced by the repair station community.
The presentation covered a list of topics familiar to ARSA members, each of which ties together the American political/regulatory environment with the international health of the aviation industry:
(1) The Trump administration’s attempts to “deconstruct the administrative state.”
(2) Legislative efforts to curb the powers of the executive branch (i.e., regulators).
(3) The fresh debate on reauthorizing the FAA.
(4) Efforts to mandate drug & alcohol testing requirements at “foreign” repair stations.
(5) The role of ARAC in regulatory reform.
(6) Aligning bilateral agreements in pursuit of true – and elusive – reciprocal acceptance.
(7) Safety and compliance-focused initiatives from global regulators.
(8) Data collection tools.
(9) The regulatory impacts of new technologies.
(10) The aviation workforce crisis.
Levanto also explored the exhibition floor as static displays were finished. In every corner of the space, the association’s members and allies were well represented. If walking the floor at MRO is a proxy for traveling the maintenance world, then ARSA is always among friends…these organizations carry the flag on behalf of all members as the association works for them.

4/5/16 - ARSA at MRO Americas - MacLeod on Buying, Selling
April 5, 2016
If you’re reading this at Aviation Week’s 2016 MRO Americas Convention in Dallas, Texas, block off your schedule for Wednesday, April 6 from 10:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. During that time, ARSA’s Executive Director Sarah MacLeod will lead a discussion on buying or selling a repair station.
Continuing their discussion from ARSA’s 2016 Annual Repair Symposium, MacLeod will once again join Al Givray of Davis, Graham & Stubbs and Seabury Group’s Brian Karpiel to explore the nuances of buying or selling an aviation maintenance operation. The session will be an open discussion on the who, what, where, when, how and why of selling an MRO business. It includes a series of “do’s and don’ts” that are useful for good business management even at organizations where a sale (or purchase) is not on the immediate horizon.
The session will begin at 10:45 on Wednesday, April 6; click here for the full schedule of events and location details at MRO.
Not at MRO but interested in the topic? Contact ARSA to learn more about resources for buying or selling a repair station. To see what other content is available via the association’s online training program, click here.
3/15/2016 - The Sights at MRO Americas – ARSA and the AMC
March 15, 2016
Aviation Week’s 2016 MRO Americas Convention will run from April 5-7 at the Kay Bailey Hutchinson Convention Center in Dallas, Texas. Attendees will be able to engage with ARSA’s Executive Director Sarah MacLeod and witness the industry’s finest skills on display at the Aerospace Maintenance Competition.
Continuing their discussion from ARSA’s 2016 Annual Repair Symposium, MacLeod will once again join Al Givray of Davis, Graham & Stubbs and Seabury Group’s Brian Karpiel to explore the nuances of buying or selling a repair station. The session will be an open discussion on the who, what, where, when, how and why of selling an MRO business. The session will begin at 10:45 on Wednesday, April 6; click here for the full schedule of events at MRO.
Throughout the convention, AMC competitors will participate in a series of hands-on challenges, testing their skill and mettle against competitors from AMT schools, repair stations, airlines and military units. The competition is an opportunity for today’s and tomorrow’s skilled aviation professionals to match their abilities against their peers. It also provides a stage to highlight the knowledge, expertise and integrity that is the foundation of today’s aviation maintenance workforce.
Both the association and its management firm, Obadal, Filler, MacLeod & Klein, P.L.C., have invested resources in the success of AMC and its participants. Not only as event sponsors, but as a technical resource for the competition’s legal and organizational needs, the experts that support ARSA members every day have invested heavily in the industry’s most valuable resource – its people.

4/21/15 - ARSA on the Road at MRO Americas
April 21, 2015
From April 14-16, Miami was the center of the aviation maintenance world. On the exhibit floor and in the lecture halls, ARSA was there.
Vice President of Operations Crystal Maguire and Director of Operations Brett Levanto attended Aviation Week’s MRO Americas. They visited association members, met with industry and media allies and took in the energy of the Aerospace Maintenance Competition (AMC).
Of course, the association also provided substantive value to the event’s agenda; Managing Director and General Counsel Marshall Filler joined the Tuesday-afternoon panel “Regs and Reality – The Status of the FAA’s Plans for the Future.” Alongside representatives from the industry, the FAA and ICAO, Filler brought his decades of experience to the table as the group explored how to better deal with safety challenges facing commercial aviation.
The association has invested considerable effort championing the value of event attendance. Whether through the voice of Executive Director Sarah MacLeod or on AviationPros or in the discussions on Aviation Week’s IdeaXchange forum, the message is clear: the business of the aviation community cannot be done without the personal interaction possible at professional events.
Getting out of the office is a great way to get things done.
“We’re a tiny piece of the big work of keeping the world flying safely,” Levanto said. “Here [at MRO Americas] we can put ourselves right in the middle of everything. Not only is it professionally rewarding, it’s personally gratifying to be face-to-face with the industry members whose work is so vital to our lives and livelihoods.”
Levanto and Maguire were on hand to celebrate AMC’s victors during the competition’s awards ceremony on April 16. Recognition was given to teams across six categories in a series of events that tested the skill, stamina and focus of both the professional mechanics and AMT students who had come to Miami to compete.
At an event like MRO Americas, the work of the association comes together. Through personal engagement and substantive excellence, ARSA represents the interests of the aviation community from the convention hall to the maintenance line.
3/29/12 - ARSA’s MacLeod Delivers Remarks at MRO Americas
March 29, 2012

On April 3, MacLeod spoke at the Engine MRO Forum on the regulatory and compliance environment in engine maintenance. Gil DaCosta, of the FAA’s flight standard Services Boston Aircraft Evaluation Group, joined MacLeod in her presentation. The duo discussed new regulations, guidance, policy, and international agreements affecting engine maintenance operations. MacLeod’s presentation before the panel is available here.
On April 4, MacLeod moderated the MRO Americas panel “Regulations Aren’t Just for the Airlines: How Rule Changes Affect MROs.” Panelists included Mark Rodu managing director, quality and technical programs at US Airways; Steve Douglas, manager, aircraft maintenance division (AFS-300), FAA; and, Jason Dickstein, president, Modification and Replacement Parts Association (MARPA).
