Congress Approves 22nd FAA Extension

On Sept. 15, the Senate passed the Surface & Air Transportation Programs Extension Act of 2011 (H.R. 2887). The legislation includes a clean four-month extension of Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) funding and operating authority.
“ARSA is pleased Congress put politics aside and passed a clean FAA extension, said ARSA Executive Director Sarah MacLeod. “Yet, their job is not complete. Lawmakers must now finalize a new multiyear FAA authorization law before January 31, 2012.
“Congress’ failure to enact a FAA reauthorization legislation is costing real jobs and undermining the competitiveness of the U.S. aviation industry. It is inexcusable that the federal agency charged with aviation safety must limp along on extension after extension. Congress’ inability to legislate must end.”
ARSA members should take advantage of the new extension to urge Congress to approve a multiyear FAA authorization law that will allow the aviation maintenance industry to grow and prosper. It is critical that the industry remains united as the reauthorization process continues.
